Welcome to the Gallery 1001.
Gallery 1001 is an is the brain-child of a few local artists who, in 2011, decided to open a Gallery in Winfield. The first place was in the building, previously ‘Petite Cleaners’ on 8th Street. The building had been remodeled by Maggie and Rich Baker. They opened “Imagine,” a place for coffee, books, gifts and fun. However, when the building sold, the Gallery had to close and find another location. It was about the same time that Mike and Ann Fell had purchased the old Higginbottom Grocery building on 1001 Main Street, and began to refurbish the interior. The original 1882 structure of the building is still all there, and standing proudly at the corner of 10th and Main in historic Downtown Winfield, and is listed as one of the ‘Historic Buildings’ in this quaint community. Thanks to Mike, Ann, and a few others whose dedication and hard work allowed the building to reopen in 2012 as The Gallery 1001. In fact, we still have a couple of the original members active in Gallery 1001 today! Gallery 1001 operates as an Artist Co-Op, whose members are also artists. Gallery 1001 is proud of the fact that we house some of the finest art, all created by local artists who reside within Winfield, Ark City, Udall, and parts of Cowley County. (Although we do have one who lives in Kansas City. On the right side, of course!) We are also proud of the fact that we bring in some of the finest artists from a variety of artistic mediums and skills as our ‘Guest Artists’ that we feature every month. So, join us.
